How Does the Refillery Work?

Hey friends! So you’ve heard about us but now you’re curious about how this all works. If you’ve shopped in bulk before this is very similar to shopping at the bulk grocery aisle. You only buy the amount of product that you want or need AND you can fill your own containers. It’s the same way here.

Step 1. Bring in your own containers. We’ll help you weigh the empty container when you arrive. We have wet erase markers that you can write directly on your containers with the weight of the container BEFORE adding ingredients; this is your Tare Weight. If you didn’t bring a container or if you find out that you need a different size you can also purchase empty containers from us.

Step 2: Look around the store and determine what you want to refill. We can help you refill your containers or you can refill them yourself. Just be careful when refilling because once a product has been dispensed we cannot put it back; it’s yours! Repeat this step as many times as you like!

Step 3: Shop around and see what other items you might want or need. We have a variety of products available that are eco-friendly and reusable. Need a solution for a wasteful item you’re using at home? Just ask!

Step 4: Pay! Visit our associate at the back of the store and we’ll weigh the contents of your containers (and subtract your tare weight) to determine your balance. We accept cash or credit card.

That’s it! It’s super simple once you’ve tried it once and if you need (or want) extra assistance we’re always here to help!

Can you live a zero-waste life?

Living a zero-waste life means sending no waste to the landfill. That’s probably not very attainable to most of us, but it’s a great goal to work on.

To be completely transparent with you, we’re not 100% zero-waste ourselves, but we are trying.

One thing we can all do is look at our current household waste and pick one thing or area to work on. Make one change this week or this month to reduce the waste you create.

What one area do you want to work on first?

Here are a few ideas if you need some encouragement:

  • Skip the straws when you go out to eat.
  • Switch from paper towels to reusable cloth napkins and towels.
  • Switch from disposable sandwich bags in your lunch to a reusable option that you can wash.
  • Take your own coffee cup with you to the coffee shop.
  • Save your empty containers, jars, bags, and bottles and refill them with The Refillery St. Pete.
